Art Supplies You Will Need

To help you get the most from your watercolour painting journey, make sure you have the art supplies listed below.

Before you rush to the shop (or hunting about online), I wanted to share something with you - the great thing about watercolour is no matter how old your paint set - you can still activate it! So, if you have a set laying around, maybe it belonged to your grandmother or your granddaughter, you can use that to participate in the workshop.

Watercolour Paint and a mixing palette.

The back of a plate will work as a mixing palette if you don't already have one.

Either pan paint or tube paint is fine - as long as it is watercolour.

You don't need to invest in all the colours when you are just starting out. A small set like the 12 colour Cotman set from Winsor & Newton will be fine (link to buy below)

Watercolour Paper

You will see better results if your paper is 300gsm/120lb cold pressed watercolour paper.

If you have a local art shop or Hobby Craft you should be able to pick up suitable paper.

Look for a brand like Winsor & Newton, Daler Rowney, Bockingford, Shore & Marsh.

AVOID Crawford & Black watercolour paper as this is thin and not as white as the brands recommended above.

Watercolour Paint Brushes, a pencil and eraser.

A round pointed brush for use with watercolour is best - Annamarie commonly uses a size 1, 3 and a 6.

Any pencil is fine such as a H, HB or a 2B. This will be used for sketching and an eraser is required to remove the marks before applying any paint.
